Canada Tourist Visa (TRV) Approved

Pawan Bahuguna

I want to share one good news with you all. Finally, my tourist visa for Canada got approved and I am back from Vacations. And in this article, I want to share my experience with you about how I got my Canadian Temporary Resident Visa (TRV). I will be sharing the complete process and what documents I submitted with the application. I submitted my application for the Canada tourist visa at the VFS New Delhi office and the experience was good.

Canada visitor visa approved trv

If you are a first time visitor to Canada as a tourist, student, or for business, you may have a problem in filling your application form, collecting all the documents, and many other things. I too had many questions in my mind before filling the application for a Canadian tourist visa and do not want to hire any tourist or visa consultant but the internet helped me a lot in clearing my doubts. There are many good forums and websites which have valuable information for free.

Medical Insurance for Parents Visiting Canada

I applied under “Visiting family or friends” category as I have to visit my brother who has a PR status in Canada and he gave me the invitation letter. An invitation letter is very important if someone is calling you to Canada.

So, if you have made your mind to visit Canada as a tourist then, first of all, determine your eligibility to visit Canada. You can visit CIC website for it.

If you found eligible to visit Canada as per the above eligibility test, you can apply for the visa.

You can apply for a Canadian tourist visa in 2 ways. First via online application and the second through an offline form by visiting embassy or VFS office in your area. VFS is the best option if you are applying offline and I haven’t found anyone going to the Canadian embassy themselves for a visa.

I applied for visitor visa through offline method via VFS Global as I don’t have enough time and online process generally takes a long time [that is what I have heard]. An offline process takes around 10 business days or 2 weeks. You can get full information about Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa – TRV) for Canada at CIC website.

Note: Current processing time from India is 44 days.

Don’t forget to include Niagara Falls in your day to day plan, as it is one of the most famous tourist places in Canada, and without seeing it your trip is incomplete. Check the below video and you would know yourself.

My Documents List for Canadian Tourist Visa

I included many documents along with the application form to make sure I am in a good position to get Canada visitor visa. Below are the documents which I included for your reference. You can include other documents too which are suitable and can make your application stronger.

1. Document Checklist [IMM 5558]

2. Application for Temporary Resident Visa [IMM 5257]

3. Family Information [IMM 5645]

4. A Bonafide letter from my company stating that they don’t have any problem and my leaves are approved. The letter should be on official letterhead and signed by your HR. Include an original letter not duplicate.

5. Income tax returns for the past 3 years, though 2 years ITR are sufficient as per the CIC website.

6. Bank statements for the past 6 months showing I have enough money for my stay in Canada and I have money to return back.

7. Letter of invitation from the person inviting you (from my brother) indicating the purpose and duration of the visit.

8. Family details of the person inviting you. Also include their passport number and citizenship.

9. My brother and his family PR card photocopy.

10. My brother’s job offer letter, Notice of Assessments (NOA) and pay slips.

11. I also included my marriage and my child’s birth certificate. This is for showing my strong relationship with my home country.

12. Detailed itinerary and purpose of visit.

13. Round trip air tickets.

14. Proof of previous travel. I included the photostat of my Japan visa and landing stamp.

15. My stocks (shares) statement.

16. Medical insurance for the period of my stay with $100,000 coverage. This I booked with an Indian insurance company as it is cheaper depending upon the number of days you stay in Canada.

17. Last but not the least, do write a cover letter supporting your application and submit it.

Check Different Letter Formats for Canada Tourist Visa (TRV)

I applied in June 2015 and since then, I can see there is a new form or instruction booklet added in the document list for Canadian tourist visa called Visa office instructions – Visit [IMM 5881], which has mainly documented checklist for Temporary Resident Visa (TRV). I am very glad to see that CIC has made a very good list of documents and removed all the confusion which the applicant can have. Do download it.

Note: I would like to thank my brother for helping me collecting the required documents and clearing my doubts wherever needed.

Tips for Canada Temporary Resident Visa – TRV

Below are few tips which I would like to share with you if you are thinking to apply for Canadian tourist visa.

1. Make a list of documents that you need for applying.

2. Collect all the information needed to fill in your application.

3. Fill out the required application forms as applicable to you.

4. Always give correct information on your application forms.

5. If possible, book your flight tickets in advance and include them with the application. It really makes a very big difference and make your application stronger.

6. Medical insurance is also good if you are going to Canada.

7. Do get your application checked by someone else [Very important]. I made one mistake in my main application and will share what I did to correct it in the next post.

8. Make visa officer believe that you are going to return back and have sufficient funds for stay by giving correct information. Don’t FAKE anything else you may be banned for a visa.

9. Do include your cover letter with the application stating why you want to go to Canada and in that letter show your strong relationship with the home country.

After submitting all the documents I got multiple entry Canada visitor visas till the validity of my passport which is 5 years.

Translate Documents for Immigration Purpose

Fees of Canada Temporary Resident Visa or Tourist visa

Current fees of Canadian temporary resident visa (TRV) is $100 (CAD). This fee is same for single entry and multiple entry visa. By default you will get multiple-entry Canadian visitor visa.

There is no option to select whether you are applying for a single entry or multiple entry visa now. Earlier the fees of a single entry and multiple entries were different and you also get the option to choose for what type of visa you are applying.

Hi pawan…plz tell me notarized documents should neccesry for canada visitor visa…can i only self attested it?

    July 30, 2017
    • Pawan Bahuguna

      Hi,

You are talking about which documents? Invitation letter I did not get notarized.

  2. Navneet Choudhary

    Dear Pawan,

I meet an agent in Chandigarh the company name is THE MARKERS they collect all my documents ( my and my family id proof my bank statement my marriage certificate my passport) when I ask them that is funds and interview is required for Canada visa then they told me that they only require statement of my bank a/c and there is no interview required.

Actually, I am applying for work visa they told me that first I have to take visitor visa then they convert that visa into work visa and I am working with my father in my company so and they already applied for my visitor visa on 25/07/017.

Please tell me what are my chances for getting my visiter visa

    July 26, 2017
    • Pawan Bahuguna

      Hi Navneet,

If they are telling you that you can convert Visitor visa to Work Visa, then they are just fooling you. In Visitor visa, you can only visit Canada and not work there and it CANNOT be converted to work visa.

For a work visa, you need a job in Canada and no Canadian employer is directly hiring from India.

      July 26, 2017
      • Navneet Choudhary

Sry sir, but they do not convert visa they have tie-up with some Canadian company they convert my visa into a work visa.

And my main Question is that they told me that there is no requirement of the interview in and there are no such funds required they only need my saving a/c 6 months statement which I already gave them and my visitor visa file already submitted in visa office.

And I do business with my dad but business funds come in my father’s a/c my a/c is OK in matter of funds.

My question is that what are the chances of getting visa in my case.

        July 26, 2017
        • Pawan Bahuguna

          Hi Navneet,

I am not aware of what documents you have submitted, so cannot comment on your TRV. If you have a valid reason to go to Canada with proper documentation, you would get the tourist visa. Else they would let you know.

The main thing is, doesn’t get trapped on false commitments by consultants. They just lie, so that they can earn their fees. GOOD LUCK!

But i am not sure how much funds i need to show in my account or if my sister can show funds for me or not. Could you please let me know if possible for you.

    Regards,
    Saru

    July 23, 2017
    • Pawan Bahuguna

      HI Sarita,

Your funds are more important. Show as much as possible, so they don’t have any reason to reject your application. Good Luck!

  4. Nana

    Hi Pawan
I am not saving at the bank but on mobile money which i cannot print a statement. what should I do.

    July 23, 2017
    • Pawan Bahuguna

That’s strange. There should be some limit on mobile money also, then what you will do?

      July 23, 2017
      • Nana

That is what I want u to help me out

        July 23, 2017
        • Pawan Bahuguna

          How can I help?

Bank statements are required, but if you could write a letter of explanation (LOE), how many money you have in the mobile bank and why you are saving in it. It could help.

          July 23, 2017
  5. Iffy

    Hi Pawan,
Hope you are doing good. My HR deptt. refused to give me employment letter as I’m a contractual employee. Plz tell me what I have to do now to show CIC that I am working.
    Regards;

    July 20, 2017
    • Pawan Bahuguna

You must have some documents which can prove your employment. If they have written in an email that they cannot provide the document, you can also submit it. stating your employer didn’t provide and you are including other related docs.

      July 23, 2017
      • Iffy

Thanks for reply. They dont send me any email, they just told me on phone. I have pay slips, contract letter to show. If I get a letter from Branch Manager that I am working this branch now, will it be benefical?

        July 23, 2017
        • Pawan Bahuguna

Better to have all official conversation on email for a record. Yes, the branch manager can also help.

          July 24, 2017
  6. Mandeep

    Sir,
My aunt applied for Canada TRV last year her visa was refused on the grounds –
    1. No ties in Canada and India;
    2. No travel history.

Now about her – she is a widow lady without any children, retired from govt. job and getting two pensions, good financial record. She got one older sister here whos is unmarried and brother with family. Even her niece and her husband (both are Canadian citizens) sponsored her and sent a details sponsorship letter sworned before Notary.

Now we want to re-apply, recently she had visited Singapore and Malaysia for 10 days.

She really wants to travel to her niece for a month only, as she treats her as daughter, and want to make a visit only and would come back within the time.

Kindly suggest what to do to avoid another refusal.

    July 13, 2017
    • Pawan Bahuguna

      Hi Mandeep,

Could you please tell what is her age and last time did she submitted, medical insurance, round trip tickets. And how much funds were shown and what was the period of stay mentioned in the application.

      July 14, 2017
      • Mandeep

        Hi Pawan,
Her age at that time was 69 years and now 70. Last time we did not submitted air ticket and insurance. Funds shown were about 20lacs, her agriculture land and we applied for one month I.e. during the summer vacation s in Canada.
Kindly suggest what to submit and how.

        July 15, 2017
        • Pawan Bahuguna

          Hi Mandeep,

Funds look fine, the main problem may be her age, round trip tickets and insurance. Try to buy refundable round trip ticket and also insurance for the period of stay.

Did you guys include invitation letter along with documents of invitee?

          July 15, 2017
    • Mandeep

      Hi Pawan,

Yes, we have included notarised letter of invitation. This time too we will be adding that.

Which is the best insurance policy and refundable ticket?

ANd any other thing which you would like us to add to the application file this time.

      July 24, 2017
      • Pawan Bahuguna

        Hi Mandeep,

With invitation letter, try to include the copy of PR card or citizenship proof also. I am sure about which is the best insurance policy, you will have to check online and same for refundable tickets.

Do write a letter, which should show why the person is visiting and strong ties with the homeland and that she will return back. Show as much as much funds including properties if any.

        July 25, 2017
  7. Abusua

It is land she gave me and I want to attach it to attach it to the application.so am asking how should go about it

    July 11, 2017
    • Pawan Bahuguna

You are already in Canada. Why you want to include that land in your mother’s application?

      July 12, 2017
      • Abusua

Am not in Canada. I’m now applying for the visitor visa .I was denied for the first time based on scio-economic tie .so I now want include a property given to me by my mother. So what am asking now is how do I go about that

        July 12, 2017
        • Pawan Bahuguna

Oh, Looks like I got confused with other comments. Sorry for that.

Just include the property (Land) paper in your name and mention that also in proof of fund (value of land). It will show strong ties with the home country.

          July 12, 2017
  8. Abusua

    Hi Pawan ,
    1. Please I want to know the differences between cover letter and letter of explanation
2.And also I have some land given to me by mum with the land papers and a poultry farm how do I prepare documents on that
    Thanks

    July 11, 2017
    • Pawan Bahuguna

The cover letter is a general letter to cover your whole application, whereas LOE is the letter for explaining specific reasons. Like why you don’t have ITR, etc.

      July 11, 2017
      • Abusua

Pls what of the question regarding the land property

        July 11, 2017
        • Pawan Bahuguna

If they don’t have that, you cannot do much. Just show strong ties with home country.

          July 11, 2017
          • Abusua

Thanks but I was ask I have a property give to me by mum and ask was asking how I do make documents on that

            July 11, 2017
          • Pawan Bahuguna

Not sure what you are asking. Looks like your mom gave you some property.

            July 11, 2017

    Ana

    July 11, 2017
    • Pawan Bahuguna

      Hey Ana,

If they are not having any property, you can try by booking their round trip ticket and also, medical insurance. Write LOE, why you want them to visit Canada.

  10. Henry

    Hello,

I am from Uganda I submitted my request for a TRV this is my first time to apply for VISA out of Africa, I have border entry and exit stamps for Kenya and Rwanda in my passport, do I stand a chance?

    July 10, 2017
    • Pawan Bahuguna

Your chance depends upon what document you submit for support and why you want to visit Canada.

      July 11, 2017
  11. Abusua

Thanks a lot. I appreciate that.

    1. One is full time and the other is on shift. When close from the teaching then I go and continue working from there.
    2. Where means they won’t give me more than my passport expiring even if am planning to renew it when it expires.

    July 9, 2017
    • Pawan Bahuguna

Then you must write a letter of explanation and tell about your job in your letter that one job is full time and another one is part time and you have taken leave from both for certain period (Do mention leave dates).

No, you won’t get the visa for more than your passport expiry. Better to renew your passport and then apply.

      July 10, 2017

    • Pawan Bahuguna

      Hi Sarita,

I have replied to your email about these questions. If you are going to visit your sister go for family TRV.

      July 10, 2017
  13. Abusua

    Hi Pawan,

    1. Please I work now for two institutions can I provide letterheads for both jobs or only one.
    2. My passport is left 18 months to expire can that affect my visa in term multiple entries like five years.
    3. Should in case my uncle $ 2500 cad as his balance and stated he will take all expense does the have effect on the application.

    July 9, 2017
    • Pawan Bahuguna

      Hi Abusua,

      1. Do you work part time on both? If the institution is ready to give experience or bonafide certificate then you can show. But, till now I haven’t seen such situation.

      2. If you will get multiple entry visa, it will be only valid till the date of expiry of your passport.

      3. Is your uncle citizen there? If yes, ask for invitation letter, pay stubs, even that bank balance won’t matter if he is employed, but the main thing is your bank balance.

      July 9, 2017
    • Iffy

      Hi Pawan,
I didnt show my bank deposit in my last year ITR, still I have to attach them with my TRV application?

      July 9, 2017
      • Pawan Bahuguna

TRV application asks for your bank balance statements. The good balance you have, strong is your application.

  14. Tuhinanshu

    Hi Pawan,
It would be of great help if you can help me in clarifying below doubts: –

    1) I am going to visit New york for some official purpose. My cousin sister lives in Ontario which is 6 hours drive from new york. I am planning to enter canada from new york on 1-2 weekends and come back. In this case I can’t show my tickets to Canada as my flights will be to and from New york.

Also, since its my cousin sister and not real sister, should I fill the reason of visit as Family visit or should I fill tourism as I don’t have any proof of relationship.

    July 7, 2017
    • Pawan Bahuguna

Yes, you can fill visit to friends and family. Just put a letter of explanation along with it and why you want to visit.

      July 9, 2017

I want your suggestion should I reapply or apply for Australia

    July 2, 2017
    • Pawan Bahuguna

If no detail is changing, then do not apply for Canada.

So for how many days you were going to Canada? Is it 8 days or more. Also, what was the reason to visit Canada? Did you write any Cover letter telling your family ties and your intent to go to Canada?

      July 4, 2017
  17. samar

    Hi Mr. Pawan,

Yesterday I got refusal letter and my passport from vfs, it’s a very disappointing news for me.

Reason is by vo in category other reason (given economic conditions employment prospects considering your travel history, I am not satisfied that you would respect the terms of your admission as a temporary resident in Canada ).

Should I reapply visitor visa or not. What you say?

    June 27, 2017
    • Pawan Bahuguna

Yes, that is awful. I know how it feels because I have been rejected in my first attempt.

Please only re-apply if there is any change in your documentation. I think they are skeptical about your stability.

Could you please tell how much money did you showed and what as the period of your stay. Also, did you have a job and showed them your ITR.

      July 2, 2017

    June 27, 2017
    • Pawan Bahuguna

      Hi Philip,

Bank statements are very important for filing the TRV application. Also, add TAX statements for past 3 years.

  20. Savita Sinha

    Hello Pawan,
Did you submit your application personally to vfs global, new Delhi? Do photocopies of the documents need to be certified by notary? Can’t they be self attested? If application is submitted on-line, docs can be scanned and sent directly.Isn’t it? What is the best way? Pl suggest.
    Thanks
    Savita

    June 23, 2017
    • Pawan Bahuguna

Yes, I submitted physically because we can submit as many as document. No photocopy was notarized. Also, I didn’t self attested them. Check the processing time. I think physically sending via VFS would be fast in Delhi.

  21. Iffy

    Hi Pawan,

Hope you doing good. I am working in a bank, please let me know if Employment letter should be from Head Office HR deptt. or can be signed by branch manager?
    Regards;

    June 17, 2017
    • Pawan Bahuguna

Employment letter should be from HR.

      June 22, 2017
      • Iffy

Will they verify it? If Yes then how?

        June 22, 2017
        • Pawan Bahuguna

I don’t know that. But they will check letter head or sign from HR. They know which is genuine and which is fake. They get lots of application everyday and are have enough experience.

False information can lead to 5 year BAN.

          June 25, 2017
  22. Pooja

    Hi Pawan,
I think you didn’t receive receive my last reply.
I showed my salary slips and funds 50k and my fathers funds as well approx 3 lacs along with few savings.
I am not sure about tickets as my agent said he will do it.

My cousin gave the me the letter as he is employed there and showed his balance of $2500 and mentioned that he will take care of funds.
Agent is asking me not to reapply as chances are very less and they haven’t stamped my passport with rejection.
    What do u suggest.

    June 16, 2017
    • Pawan Bahuguna

I have got your last reply.

Check check my previous comment. Actually you should show them you are stable in your home country. Also, for how many days you applied your visa for?

      My Previous comment is below:

    Hi,

My cousin gave the letter and mentioned that he will handle expenses but his balance at that time was also $3000 so, I showed my father’s Current account balance which was approx 4 lacs and my balance 50k in support to it.

My agent said he will keep the tentative flight details in it but m not sure about that.

He is not asking me to reapply as chances are very less with the account balance. Should I reapply or try after some time?

    Hello Pawan,

I’ve applied for visitor visa for canada on 12 may 2017 and today i got email ur passport is dispatched. I wanna know how i came to know is that approved with visa or not??? while i ve applied for uk visa they sent me the same email and i got uk visa. My question is that if Canada visa office sent any rejection email or not anyone had this experience plzz rep em in stress?

    May 23, 2017
    • Pawan Bahuguna

      Hi Liyana,

Looks like from your country processing is very fast. You cannot know from email if visa is approved or not. Just go and collect your visa, then only you will know actual status. Don’t be stressed.

Do let us know here if your visa got approved or not. Good Luck!

Canada consulate office don’t send such email. You will came to know about visa status only when you will receive it.

            Hi,
They do send a rejection email if you apply online. I applied once before and got a rejection email within a week. I applied again and got an email, requesting for passport submission. I still have to submit it, do you think it has been approved?

            May 24, 2017
          • Pawan Bahuguna

I applied offline. Cannot comment if visa is approved or not. If you have already experienced that and they do sent email for rejection, then it could be possible that they have approved the visa as they are asking for passport.

    Hi Pawan,

I have a friend of mine who wants to visit me here in Canada but she doesn’t have a work background, first time to travel, 18 years of age, and a graduated in 6 months culinary course. Is there a possibility to have a chance to come here?, but I’m the one who’s going to support all her needs and also her parents too.

Doesn’t look anything favoring her. How much money she has in her bank accounts or what are the family ties?

    Hi Pawan,

I have a friend of mine who I want to visit here in Canada. This coming October 2017, but we have a problem my Permanent Resident (PR card) is going to expire this october also is there any possibility that might cause her when shes applying for a tourist visa?

    May 20, 2017
    • Pawan Bahuguna

      Hi Gladys,

You can give invitation letter as far as your PR is valid. I am sure you must be renewing your PR.

    Hi Pawan,

My name is Aparna and I am planning to visit Canada and USA this august. I have already received my USA visa and am trying to apply for a Canadian visa.

My query is that, my paternal aunt lives in Canada, and while filling the questionnaire, they ask your purpose of visit. I am confused between 2 options; tourism or visiting family/friends.

When I select visiting family, they always ask proof of relationship, and i have no idea what to provide in that. Can you please help me?

    May 18, 2017
    • Pawan Bahuguna

If you are going to visit your Aunt, then you can use family/friends option Or simply choose for tourism and give letter of explanation stating you want to meet her and ask your aunt to provide invitation letter.

    Hi Pawan,

Just like to ask my brother lives in canada for almost 12 now, and invited me and my mother. He will be the one to provide everything including the tickets and our stay. The problems is, we don’t have any money in the bank nor any financial means. My mother is not working anymore while I’m on my new job working in just 7 months. Do you think they will grant us a visa?

    May 10, 2017
    • Pawan Bahuguna

      Hi Trisha,

As CIC, you might not have any reason to come back to your home country. You will have to ask your brother to book round trip in advance, though they are not compulsory, but can you show your intentions to come back.

Do you have any property in your name or your mothers?

What i am supposed to do ?
        Im really confused

        please help me
        More power

        • Pawan Bahuguna

          Hi Trisha,

You have to make them believe you will written back. You can also write about your situation. You have 7 month job, you can show your paystub and letter from employer that you are permanent employee and is on leave. You can tell that you have started working recently, so don’t have tax statements. Give true information and hope for best.

Below is the complete guide from CIC.

            Pawan,

I have tried to check for refundable flight ticket in my country, but I didn’t succeed. But I did find flight a booking showing my itinerary routes including my departure date. Is that OK if I could submit it along with my application? I have used his booking to buy my health assurance.

Is that OK if I submit it to CIC please advise?

            August 20, 2017
          • Pawan Bahuguna

            Hi Lary,

Actual tickets only count, though booking of the ticket is not mandatory. But having purchased tickets surely increase your chances. I don’t think itinerary would work.

Hello sir , me and my wife are planning a trip to Canada we have 7 months old baby. We have selected a holiday package from Thomas cook but their condition is, if our visa application got rejected due to any reason then we will get only 50% of total cost of the package means we get only 4000$ back out of 8000$ . So I am little confused here wat to do.

My profile is like m 32 yrs old, studied in Singapore in 2011 came back after 2 yrs. Then never applied for any country till now never got any visa rejection. My salary is approx.35 to 40k. Married in 2015 wife is a special education teacher but not working from last 1.3 yrs because of maternity nd she got a fresh passport in 2017. Trip is sponsored by my father. I don’t have any properties in my name so its seems little week ties to my home country. So should we take our baby { 7 months } with us on 12 days tour or leave him to my parents as we have a joint family nd obviously its the strongest tie we have to home country our son . Which is the best way in our case where visa chances are more good. and if we taking a holiday pkg from a good international brand and already paid for whole trip before interview its makes difference or not .. will it makes our case strong ?
Please guide sir, Thanks . you are doing really a nice job .

    May 2, 2017
    • Pawan Bahuguna

If I were you, I will not go for such package. Plan ahead and you can save money on your trip. If you plan properly and with all the required document, all of you will get Canadian tourist visa.

Show your family ties, like father, mother, in-laws, relatives, etc. Also, include your job bonafide certificate and paystubs. Hope you have good bank balance to show them.

Even instead of booking thomas cook and waste money, you can actually buy refundable return tickets, It will not only strengthen your application, but you can also cancel them if needed.

      May 3, 2017

Better you can apply directly for visa. Don’t go with thomas cook.

          Hi Jaswinder,

Please go to any travel site and search for the ticket with filter refundable. You will get many options. Also, call their support to check how much money will be deducted in case of you want to cancel the ticket.

      Hi Jeevan,

I am not sure about that. Check for Family class dependent visa.
